The Best Walks Near Clovenstone Lodges
One of the joys of staying at Clovenstone Lodges is having some of Aberdeenshire’s most beautiful countryside right on your doorstep.
From peaceful woodland and riverside paths to hill walks with far-reaching views, there are plenty of opportunities to pull on your walking boots, breathe in the fresh Scottish air and explore.
Whether you’re looking for a gentle afternoon stroll or something a little more energetic, here are a few ideas for walks to enjoy during your stay.

Bennachie
No guide to walking near Clovenstone would be complete without Bennachie.
One of Aberdeenshire’s most recognisable landmarks, Bennachie offers a network of walking routes through woodland and across open hillside, with something to suit different abilities.
For those looking for a challenge, Oxen Craig, at 529 metres, is the highest point in the Bennachie range, while the distinctive Mither Tap, at 518 metres, is perhaps its most recognisable summit. Make it to the top and you’ll be rewarded with wonderful panoramic views across the surrounding Aberdeenshire countryside.
And, of course, if the names sound familiar, there’s a reason for that, several of our lodges take their names from the Bennachie landscape.
Explore the Garioch
Clovenstone sits within the Garioch, an area at the heart of Aberdeenshire where rolling farmland, woodland, rivers and historic towns come together.
Nearby Kemnay, on the banks of the River Don, offers scenic riverside and countryside walks, while the countryside around Keithall provides peaceful trails where you may spot birds, deer, rabbits and squirrels along the way.
Insch is overlooked by Dunnideer Hill, where the remains of an ancient hillfort add a little history and cultural heritage to your walk.
Sometimes there’s no need for a summit or a destination at all; simply taking the time to wander through the countryside and enjoy the open skies can be just what you need.
Take your four-legged friend
Dogs are very welcome at Clovenstone, so there’s no need for them to miss out on the adventure.
Many of the surrounding countryside and woodland walks are ideal for exploring together.
At the end of the day…
After a few hours outside, there’s something particularly satisfying about returning to the comfort of your lodge.
Kick off your walking boots, grab a drink and let tired legs recover in your private hot tub.
That combination of fresh air, beautiful scenery and having nowhere you need to be is exactly what a relaxing countryside break should feel like.
So, whether you conquer Mither Tap, wander beside the River Don or simply enjoy a quiet countryside stroll, Clovenstone makes a peaceful base from which to discover Aberdeenshire on foot.
