Local wildlife to look out for during your stay

One of the most magical parts of staying at Clovenstone Lodges is the wildlife that surrounds you.

Set amongst woodland and open countryside, the area is home to a rich variety of birds and animals. It’s the kind of place where nature is never far away, whether it’s birdsong in the trees or a distant glimpse of wildlife across the fields.

Birds of prey

Keep your eyes on the skies during your stay and you might spot one of Scotland’s most impressive birds of prey.

The common buzzard, one of the UK’s most recognisable raptors, can often be seen soaring above the countryside with its distinctive call echoing through the air.

You may also see the elegant red kite, known for its reddish-brown body and unmistakable forked tail.

Coastal wildlife

Just a short drive from the lodges, the Aberdeenshire coastline offers incredible opportunities to spot marine wildlife.

The waters off the coast are home to dolphins, harbour porpoises and even the occasional minke whale. Watching dolphins leap through the waves is an unforgettable experience and a highlight for many visitors.

Seal colonies can also be spotted along the coastline, particularly around the Ythan Estuary and Newburgh Beach.

Scotland’s iconic red deer

Further inland, Scotland’s largest land mammal, the red deer roams the countryside and hills.

Seeing these majestic animals in the wild is one of the most memorable wildlife experiences Scotland has to offer.

Sometimes the best moments are the quietest ones…a swallow gliding through the sky, rabbits emerging at dusk, or simply listening to the birdsong while enjoying your morning coffee.

At Clovenstone Lodges, nature isn’t something you have to search for. It’s simply part of the experience.
