Introducing our new lodge: Cairnwood
If you’ve stayed at Clovenstone before, you’ll know that no two of our lodges are quite the same.
And our newest addition may just be the most distinctive yet.
Cairnwood Lodge is now complete, an unusual oval-shaped woodland retreat for up to four guests, nestled amongst the trees at Clovenstone.
Work on the new lodge began in February 2026, when the Aberdeenshire weather perhaps wasn’t quite as enthusiastic about the project as we were!

From the beginning, Graham wanted to create something a little different. Rather than simply repeating one of the existing lodge designs, Cairnwood woulhaveits own character, most noticeably in its unusual curved shape. And bringing that idea to life became something of a labour of love.
Graham, together with a group of friends, has spent the months since then building the lodge themselves. From those early stages in February through to the finishing touches in September, they’ve watched an idea on paper gradually become a place where guests can now come to relax and enjoy the peace of Clovenstone.

Built to belong amongst the trees
The shape might be unusual, but Cairnwood doesn’t feel out of place, quite the opposite.
Its sweeping oval design, timber finishes and woodland setting work together beautifully, giving the lodge a natural warmth that continues as soon as you step through the door.
Inside, the curved timber-clad ceiling follows the shape of the building, creating a cosy open-plan space with a contemporary kitchen, dining area and plenty of room to settle in and make yourself at home.
It sleeps up to four, with a king-size bed and single bunk beds, making it a lovely option for a family break, two couples or a few days away with friends.

Designed for slowing down
Outside is where Cairnwood really makes the most of its setting.
A large private deck wraps the lodge in outdoor living space, surrounded by trees and with plenty of room to sit back and enjoy the fresh Aberdeenshire air.
There’s a secluded private hot tub, outdoor seating and a covered dining pod, so you can have breakfast outside on a bright morning, fire up the BBQ for dinner or wrap up and sit outdoors long after summer has disappeared.
It feels private and peaceful – somewhere to switch off for a few days and enjoy having very little that you actually need to do.

Seven months later…
There is something particularly satisfying about seeing Cairnwood finally finished, and knowing how much time, work and care Graham and his friends have put into building it makes this one feel particularly special.
Cairnwood may be the newest lodge at Clovenstone, but it already feels very much at home amongst the trees.
We hope you’ll love staying in it as much as we’ve loved creating it.
Cairnwood Lodge sleeps up to four guests and is now available to book for family breaks, couples’ escapes and small group stays.
