Celebrate International Dog Day at Clovenstone

At Clovenstone Lodges, we know that dogs are part of the family, which is why they are very welcome here.

The surrounding countryside makes the perfect playground for curious noses and wagging tails, with plenty of space to explore and enjoy the fresh Scottish air. From woodland trails to open countryside, it’s a place where both humans and dogs can slow down and enjoy being outdoors.

What is International Dog Day?

International Dog Day is celebrated every year on 26th August and was first established in 2004 to recognise the important role dogs play in our lives.

The day celebrates dogs of all shapes and sizes, from beloved family pets to rescue dogs and working dogs who support people every day. It’s also a reminder of the incredible companionship, loyalty and joy that dogs bring to their owners.

For many people, dogs aren’t just pets, they are a true part of the family.

Walks your dog will love

One of the best parts of staying at Clovenstone is the access to beautiful outdoor spaces nearby.

The area offers endless opportunities for scenic walks, including:

Woodland trails around Bennachie, quiet countryside paths through Aberdeenshire farmland and coastal walks along Aberdeenshire’s stunning beaches.

Whether it’s a quick morning stroll or a longer countryside adventure, there are plenty of places for dogs to explore.

Many guests say their dogs enjoy the holiday just as much as they do!

The benefits of exploring with your dog

Spending time outdoors with your dog is good for both physical and mental wellbeing.

Long walks, fresh air and time in nature can help reduce stress, boost mood and encourage a slower, more relaxed pace of life – something we hope all guests experience during their stay at Clovenstone.

Dogs also have a wonderful way of helping us enjoy the simple things in life…a peaceful walk, a new smell to investigate, or simply sitting outside and watching the world go by.

Dog friendly tips for your stay at Clovenstone

To help everyone enjoy their stay, including our four-legged guests, here are a few helpful tips when travelling with your dog.

  • Be mindful of livestock

The countryside around Clovenstone is home to sheep, horses and other farm animals. When out walking, please keep your dog under control and close by, particularly in areas where livestock may be present.

  • Pack the essentials

Bringing a few familiar items from home can help your dog feel settled in a new environment. Things like their favourite blanket, toys or bed can make the lodge feel instantly comfortable.

  • Explore at your own pace

One of the best parts of staying in the countryside is being able to slow down. Early morning walks, quiet evening strolls and exploring the surrounding landscape together can be just as enjoyable for your dog as it is for you.

  • Clean up after your dog

Helping to keep the lodges and surrounding countryside clean ensures that Clovenstone remains a welcoming place for everyone – guests, dogs and wildlife alike.

A holiday for the whole family

Travelling with your dog means no one gets left behind and it often makes a holiday even more special.

And if you happen to be visiting around International Dog Day this August, it’s the perfect excuse to celebrate your four-legged companion.

At Clovenstone Lodges, wagging tails are always welcome.
